Digital Remote Brand: The Passport to Remote Work Success
Stay tuned for next week's remote worker spotlight✨
Hi Superstar,
Ever heard the proverb, "A closed mouth doesn't get fed?" It resonates across cultures. In Igbo, it's expressed as "Onye na-eme ihere na-ahapụ ya" (one who's too shy gets left behind). In Yoruba, they say "Eni tí kò bá sọ̀rọ̀ kò ní tẹ̀ síwájú" (he who does not voice out won't proceed). In Hausa, the sentiment mirrors "Mai aiki yayi magana" (the one who works speaks up). In French, it's "Qui ne dit rien perd" (who says nothing, loses out), and in Chinese, the saying "你不能闭着嘴抓住飞翔的鸟" (you can't catch the flying bird with a closed mouth) captures it beautifully.
Remote work echoes this sentiment. Although not entirely a novel concept, remote work is still an emerging frontier in several industries. Companies grapple with the nuances of assembling remote teams and aligning them with their operational needs. Often, roles are filled through 'hidden recruiting'. They're not always advertised on job boards. Instead, employers value recommendations – the digital nod from the online community. This brings us to the heart of the matter: your digital brand.
What's your digital brand? Is it an authentic representation of your skills, passions, and achievements? If you've been underestimating its significance, it's time to recalibrate.
Your digital brand isn't just a LinkedIn profile or a Twitter bio; it's your professional identity in the virtual world. It's the flag you wave in the vast online realm, signaling to potential employers, "Here I am, and this is what I bring to the table."
Believe it or not, your digital brand can be your passport to unadvertised opportunities. Recommendations can flow in when your brand resonates with value, authenticity, and relevance. But how can you carve out this distinct identity? Here are some steps to build a robust digital brand:
.1. Start with Self-Reflection
What's Your Story? Before you create content or engage online, know your narrative. What are your strengths? What are you passionate about? This forms the core of your brand. For example; think of Steve Jobs. His story wasn’t just about building Apple, but about innovation, thinking differently, and design aesthetics.
2. Choose the Right Platforms
Not Every Space is Your Stage. Depending on your profession and interests, some platforms will be more suitable than others. An artist might shine on Instagram or Behance, while a tech guru might find their tribe on LinkedIn or Twitter.
3. Content is King
Be a Giver, Not Just a Taker. Share valuable insights, write articles, make videos or host webinars. Your content should reflect your expertise and offer something beneficial to your audience.
4. Engage, Don’t Just Broadcast
Be Human. Respond to comments, engage in discussions, attend virtual conferences, or join webinars. Your brand grows when you’re not just seen, but when you’re heard. For example; Elon Musk, despite being a CEO of multiple companies, actively engages with his followers on Twitter, adding a personal touch to his digital brand.
5. Consistency is Crucial
Maintain a Regular Rhythm. Be consistent, whether it's posting content, updating your profiles, or networking. Your audience should know they can expect something from you regularly.
6. Evolve with Feedback
Stay Receptive. Take constructive criticism in stride. Regularly ask for feedback and use it to refine your brand.
7. Keep Learning
Stay Updated. The digital world is dynamic. To maintain an edge, enroll in courses, attend workshops, or read up on the latest trends in your industry.
Remember, your digital brand is a living, breathing entity. It reflects your journey, your values, and your aspirations. As you grow, let your brand evolve with you. Make it as vibrant, dynamic, and multi-faceted as you are!
