Hi Superstar,
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way.
I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and your holiday is going well.
Yesterday, I spent some time finishing a book I started earlier this year - The Power of Now by Eckhart Toll. Like all the books and movies I engage with, I love relating them with my career and perspectives of life. The book summarizes a spiritual self-help guide to help one discover their inner peace and outlines insights on on how to achieve one’s goals and inner purpose. It also preaches on the moment of now and appreciating the present.
“Time isn’t precious at all, because it is an illusion. What you perceive as precious is not time but the one point that is out of time: the Now. That is precious indeed. The more you are focused on time—past and future—the more you miss the Now, the most precious thing there is.”
Eckhart Tolle
What does the Power of Now means?
The Power of Now means doing what you need to do now. I love interpreting this as appreciating the present, forgiving the past and living for the future. Most times, we let our mind consume our present moment and we fail to recognize what’s real and what’s not; what’s in the past and what’s going to future.
While, people see procrastination as a problem, I see it as a solution. Procrastination signals what is important to you at a moment but because of fear and preference, people put it off and focus on other things instead. Understandably, for some this is their coping mechanism for avoiding trying and to protect themselves from the distressing experience of failing. So it’s not surprising that a large number of people are inclined to stay within their comfort zone, where they’re confident they won’t fail.
How to Activate the Power of Now in your Career?
Firstly, you need to free yourself and forgive your past mistakes to be totally present in your current career journey. One of life’s precious gifts is the present. If you have a good plan that you can execute today, do it. Whether it is a job opportunity or a plan to learn a professional course, there is nothing to gain by waiting for some imagined perfect confluence of events. You need to strike while the opportunity presents itself, because you never know what tomorrow or next week may bring.
Secondly, make your goals in motion. Don’t just set goals but work on them. To be more motivated and productive, you should make it a habit to start working on your goals right away. While imagination empowers success, Its only efforts that can make you succeed. Success is not something that just happens to you; it is something that you achieve over time through daily effort. And while some people may experience it sooner than others, success is something that everyone can create if they remain diligent and committed to seeing their efforts bear fruit.
Lastly, make your own opportunities. Most people wait for opportunities to come to them, rather than wait for that perfect job or opportunity, go out and make your own opportunity. Carve your own path in the world and take hold of the success you desire.

SOFT SKILLS TO WORK ON IN 2023
Soft skills plays a huge role in most hiring decisions than knowledge or technical skills. Hiring managers can easily recognize an ideal candidate for a role within minutes of the interview based on the quality of soft skills.
Also, when choosing between two seemingly equal candidates, organizations are now prioritizing “soft skills” as the key differentiator.
There are essential soft skills in various careers but the most important soft skills organizations look out for are;
Communication: this is the ability to communicate effectively to team members and clients
Team work: This is the ability to negotiate with others and to recognize and appreciate diversity in a team.
Critical thinking: this is the ability to understand problems and devise solutions.
Leadership: this is the ability to manage situations in difficult positions.
Time management: this is an essential soft skill in remote work. It is the ability to organize your schedule, both daily and beyond, to get your projects done on time and with efficiency.
Growth mindset: Most Startups employers look for candidates who are motivated to reach higher levels of achievement by continuously learning new skills in order to drive success.
Emotional intelligence: this is another essential soft skill in remote work. It is the ability to perceive, evaluate, and respond to your emotions and the emotions of others. In other words, it is the ability to think empathetically about the people around you and the interpersonal relationships that develop in the workplace.
MY FAVORITE QUOTES FROM THE POWER OF NOW BY ECKHART TOLLE
"Accept – then act. Whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it. Always work with it, not against it. Make it your friend and ally; not your enemy. This will miraculously transform your whole life.”
“Negativity is never the optimum way of dealing with any situation.”
“Die to the past every moment. You don’t need it. Only refer to it when it is absolutely relevant to the present. Feel the power of the moment and the fullness of Being. Feel your presence.”
“The sooner you realize that your outer purpose cannot give you lasting fulfillment, the better. When you have seen the limitations of your outer purpose, you give up your unrealistic expectation that it should make you happy, and you make it subservient to your inner purpose.”
“Some changes look negative on the surface but you will soon realize that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge”.
“The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation but your thoughts about it”.
“It is through gratitude for the present moment that the spiritual dimension of life opens up”
