Hi Superstar,
What movies are you currently watching?
Last weekend, I saw an indigenous Yoruba Movie on Netflix called The Griot. While there were some bad reviews of the movie, I loved the message the writer was trying to pass across. Like every other movie I engage myself with, I love relating them to career motivation and lessons.
The griot was no different. It reminded me of so many opportunities I lost to people who had better oratory skills than I am. The movie tells the story of a storyteller called Sanmi whose stories have earned him popularity, respect, and riches in his village. Unknown to the village people, the stories he tells are from his best friend, Lakunle who is shy but possesses an intelligent and imaginative mind.
In the words of Lakunle’s Father;
“So, you are the one making Sanmi rich with your own stories and you are here weaving clothes”.
I love how the story brought light to the fact that the world is quick to recognize people with oratory skills and confident persona than those who are timid but intelligent.
Today’s job market is as competitive as ever, talents alone won’t take you very far. How confident you are and how well you use your mouth to professionally market your skills is what will take you to the top of your career.
Life has given each one of us a voice. With this voice, we announce our presence, and our intentions, to the world. So use your voice, wisely, by your words and actions, you decide how you will be treated. This is a responsibility you must carry for yourself. Employers look for people with confidence and a positive outlook on life as they can rely on them to get on with their work, as well as motivate others and create a good atmosphere.
Blow your Trumpet. Only you can find the confidence to say to the world, “I have done well. I am skilled, knowledgeable, capable, tenacious and the best”.

“Do I still have time to make the best of the year? I don’t think I can achieve anything this year”.
Well, you can.
The world was created in 7 days and the remaining days of the year are 19 days. There is so much you can achieve then. The year is not over, there is grace for finishing strong.
How you function is a perspective of how you see. Starting now, see the remaining days of the year as your days of career success. There is always hope when there is life and we have life.
With Love,
Mary-Esther
