Hi Superstar,
What is your biggest regret? Have you ever pondered on a failed project, career mistake or even a layoff?
I have, several times. In one instance I kept regretting about all the things I did wrong. I hardly had a productive day, I was too fixated at my mistakes that i didn’t see the lessons behind it. As a result, I lost 4,320 hours reminiscing about an event that could never change instead of learning and redirecting my actions. Life will continue to repeat its lessons until they are learnt. Until then, you will find yourself living the same situations, just with different faces.
There are no regrets in this life, only lessons. If you regret something, it’s because you didn’t learn from it. If you learnt something, some kind of lesson, then you should by no means live with any kind of regret.
My favorite piece I came across this week was from Omaritani, it says;
To have some regrets is normal and healthy. In fact, a small dose of regret is considered a positive “negative emotion.” It helps you make sense of the world, gain insight into what matters to you, and avoid future negative behaviors.
HOW TO DEAL WITH REGRET IN YOUR CAREER
Acceptance: Denial can be destructive. It’s better to recognize and take note of your regrets.
Seek out an advice from a Mentor: Talking to older professionals in the industry helps provide clarity. Last year September, I remember having regrets in my career and I spoke to two industry professionals closer to me. They provided insights and shared similar situations which really motivated me to move on.
Don’t be afraid to consider a career change: Yesterday, I watched Charlie Young's YT Video of asking young millionaires tips on how to be successful, one of them mentioned, “Risks and Flexibility”. To be successful, you have to train yourself to be flexible and accept risks. Career transformation is not as daunting as it seems. You can have a successful career change by assessing your interests, skills and considering alternative careers. As Charles Schwab worded it , “A man can succeed at almost anything for which he has unlimited enthusiasm”.

MUSING
Kindness.
Yesterday at church, I sat closely to a little girl about five years old. After a short period of me almost dozing off *Coughs*, I felt a little tug at the hem of my dress. At first, I ignored it because I thought it was a mistake then the feel got stronger and this time around she gently tapped me.
I faced her and she looked at me. I looked at her silently unsure what she wanted. Then she used her hand to tug her nicely beaded braids to the side of her face and pointed at a tiny hole on her forehead. That was the first time I actually noticed it. She had sat closely to me for over thirty minutes. No questions asked, I muttered to her, “Sorry” and gently touched her hand, “You are still pretty” and she gave a soft smile. In a few seconds, she was bubbly and after a few minutes of touching everywhere, she gently rested her head on her right hand and dozed off till her father realized the situation and carried her in his arms.
Kindness is giving hope to those who think they are all alone in this. It is seeing the best in others when they cannot see it in themselves. It’s a new week, be kind. Trust me, a simple gesture from you can change a person’s day.
With Love,
Mary-Esther
