“The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease to do it forever” - J.M Barrie, Peter Pan.
Hi Superstar,
When starting a career, you don’t automatically build confidence in a day and that’s alright. Confidence is not something that can be learnt, it is a state of mind. You have to equip yourself continuing with positive thinking, training and networking with the right people. To do this, you must step out of your cozy box and learn to do the things that make you uncomfortable.
HOW TO BE CAREER CONFIDENT
Celebrate your wins: Learn to be your own cheerleader, build the habit of recognizing and praising your hard work. When you do this, you create a healthy ego that allows you to enjoy your achievements, no matter how small. Also, it instills the culture of vocalizing positive statements about yourself.
Set expectations: Creating goals is a step to defeating fear, when you set goals, you create targets to your progression. Your goals do not have to be huge, they can be small steps that lead to big results.
Stop comparing yourself with others: Confidence starts by being authentic. The truth is you can’t be like everyone and everyone can’t be like you. Everyone’s race is different just like their chapters, some are early bloomers while others are late bloomers. Nevertheless, we will get to the finish line.
Believe in your good qualities: Use your strengths to your advantage, become familiar with your strengths and make it a habit of reviewing them daily. Also, cultivate the habit of upskilling and trying out for opportunities.
Focus on Progress instead of Perfection: We are human and we are imperfect. So perfection should never be your goal because the outcome will be failure instead accept errors, and strive for learning.

It’s 1am and I’m listening to Lost Boy by Ruth B. I can’t help but remember Peter Pan, Wendy , Tinkerbell and the Lost boys. Peter Pan was among the earliest cartoons I watched as a little girl and at night, I could stare at the window and wonder if there’s really a pixie dust that can make young girls fly. My favorites words from Peter Pan was,
“Now think of the happiest things, it’s the same as having wings”.
Being older, the happiest thing I can think of is Peace. When there is peace, I have wings.
With love,
Mary-Esther
