Hi Superstar,
We are approaching the end of the year and for some reason, I’m very much excited. This year has been a rollercoaster- there have been near-success events, successful projects, testimonies, rejections but best of all, redirections. This year, I started perceiving rejections as being stuck in a river and having to change my course due to the strong wind. I view rejections as maybe the hiring manager was right, and the job wasn't the best fit for me, and I wouldn’t have been happy in the role. This has helped ease the disappointment and anxiety.
The truth is hiring decisions are typically subjective and no one likes to be rejected for a job. Whether you had your heart set on getting hired or weren’t even sure you wanted the job, it still hurts to find out that you’ve been rejected. It even hurts more when you are extremely qualified because you tend to get rejected more often than you’ll get the job. Rejection makes us wonder if something is amiss with us. We start tearing ourselves apart with self-criticism and doubting our skills.
But think of rejections as having options ahead of you, and these options will enable you to see things from a different perspective. It will make you more curious and hone your abilities. It will teach you to redirect yourself toward better things, people and situations. And to view rejection as nothing more than a redirection.
To succeed in your long-term goal of finding that dream opportunity and getting hired, you need to learn to cope with being rejected. So, do not be afraid to dream, and do not be afraid of being rejected. Keep your goal alive and dream big. You have not been rejected, only redirected which means you have only been delayed, but not denied.
