Four Steps to do before Applying for a Remote Job
First and foremost, do a research about the company. Companies can be very tricky when it comes to job descriptions. So, you have to do a thorough background check about the company. Check out reviews platform like glassdoor and the best of them all, blind. Also, find out what their employees are saying about the working hours, the hiring process and the company structure. This will help to set your mind and let you know if you are entering the Lion’s den or the Promised land.
Secondly, make a connection with the company. A best way to do this is by using the ultimate tool, LinkedIn to connect with your future colleagues and the gatekeepers to the company, the recruiters. If you are in the Tech space (most especially the blockchain/NFTs Industry), I would advise you use Twitter as a connecting tool. Ensure you participate more often on Twitter Tech Spaces and don’t just be a listener, try to chip in one or two ideas because who knows, your idea might seems amazing to someone that holds opportunities.
Thirdly, Tailor your resumes. Let’s not forget that remote jobs are still normal jobs and they most likely have the same process. It’s not advisable to use one CV to apply for a bunch of remote roles instead review the job descriptions of the role and tailor your CV to fit the criteria.
Lastly, you must have confidence. Confidence is a mindset and believe it or not, it plays a major role in your application process. So, the next time you are applying for a role, go on with it with the mindset that you are the best candidate.

Musings
It’s 2am and a memory flashed through my mind. It’s 2012 and I’m watching my friend do a moral talk on a piece I wrote in front of an audience. She is holding the mic and I can see the words rolling out of her mouth, word for word, how did she learn every word so quickly. I don’t know how to feel, I’m trying to smile to cheer her but my face keeps betraying me, I want to cry. I look over to the left side of the hall and I see the senior teacher, whose office I prepped every lunch break nodding his head and smiling in admiration, but that’s my piece, I wanted to scream.
After, she ended my speech, I watched the audience stand up to cheer her, it was a wonderful piece. I heard the Chairman telling the other directors that they need to publish and print the piece. That moment, a thought instantly ran through my mind, You wouldn’t have said it better or would you have preferred that you stammered every word and disgraced yourself
Ten years later, I wished I could answer that voice and say embarrassment is a national cake, I fit do am. Regardless of my speech deficiency, I know I would have done a good job. It was my piece and no one could have said it better than me.
However, this is the past but for some, this is their present. They are currently in the background when they are meant to be in the spotlight. Believe me, I can understand that fear of I’m not good enough, I can’t do it better, What if I fail, What if I disgraced myself. I have felt it for a good number of times. Worse of all, I have had people say it to my face.
But guess what?
I’m resilient and I will keep telling myself , I am good enough and a Superstar. I will continue aspiring mighty dreams and going for the things greater than me. Eventually or not, when I embarrass myself, I will celebrate and reward myself for getting the embarrassments I ran from all those years.
Take a step out of your closet and don’t be scared to shine.
