Hello Superstar,
I thought I would use the first paragraph as a means to introduce myself and why I started InclusivelyRemote. But, if you want to go ahead to check the newly listed remote opportunities and skip the backstory then scroll down .
Kidding, skipping the backstory is not allowed*
My name is Mary-Esther Anele. I’m a Remote Work and DE I Advocate. I fell in love with remote work in 2020 when I did my first virtual unpaid internship at Bright Network. I found the whole experience exciting, I was thrilled to be able to complete tasks and network with different people globally from the comfort of my bed.
In the later months of 2020, I decided to apply for paid remote human resources opportunities but it was difficult as sailing the sea in an egg shell. There were remote opportunities, they just weren’t for me, a Nigerian with no technical background.
My favorite mails up until 2021 were:
Thank you for your continued interest. However, we are not hiring in your region. We wish you the best in your professional career.
Hi Mary, we just noticed you were from Nigeria. Unfortunately, we have decided to move forward with other candidates that closely matched our requirements. Sorry for the inconveniences.
Most times, I could get to the final stage of the hiring process, only to be told that they don’t hire from Africa. I was devastated but I kept applying. I could lay on my bed with tears flowing from rejection and still fill out application forms.
In November 2021, I decided to research more about the remote work community and I learnt more on the difference between Remote, Fully Remote and Remote-First companies. The best, being the Remote-First companies that promotes an organizational strategy that makes working remotely the primary option for all employees.
How does IncluisvelyRemote come in?
InclusivelyRemote is designed to ensure no one gets to be like the old me who got a bunch of rejection mails a day before a test from applying to remote opportunities that weren’t inclusive to my region. It’s dedicated to ensuring equal technical and non-technical jobs from remote-first companies for everyone anywhere, promoting inclusive remote companies, sharing tips on landing interviews, employment policies in remote work, negotiating your salary and getting your dream remote job.

Musings
It’s okay to take your time. This generation has romanticized hustle, and moving forward so quickly when it comes to careers and success. But, I have come to realize that there is no point in rushing quickly towards life. We all have a unique timeline and it’s okay to slow down.
So, I’m gradually learning to stop overthinking and overanalyzing every little decision.
To stop living in fear of whether I’m doing enough with my time, or I’m meeting expectations I have set for myself. I’m going to enjoy every moment of my journey, be grateful for every achievement no matter how little and appreciate life instead of treating it as a competition.
We have come to the end of this week’s digest. Please share the InclusivelyRemote newsletter on social media and encourage your friends to sign up.
See you, next week!
Yours Truly,
Mary-Esther
