Hi Superstar,
Wow.
Here we are—at the final lap of 2024! What a fast-paced and fascinating year it has been for InclusivelyRemote. I started the year with a vision board filled with ambitious goals for the platform, but life had other plans. I didn’t accomplish everything on that list, probably because I was rounding off my LLB degree, and the pressure from school was intense. However, I ended up achieving even more incredible things I hadn’t anticipated.
Let’s take a moment to reflect:
We upgraded our site and launched a subscription model in mid-March, turning our dream into a revenue-generating platform.
We reached a milestone of 1,000 premium (paying) members and currently have 330 retainer subscribers.
Our community grew beyond my wildest expectations—30,000 followers on Instagram, 29,000 on TikTok, and 9,000 combined across LinkedIn and Twitter.
Over 70,000 visits each month, with 20,000 unique visitors on the job board and a total of 800,000 visits this year(via Jetpack).
We collaborated with JobCoplilot to automate the job search experience on the job board.
Each of these milestones felt like a gift.
This reminded me of a conversation I had with a coursemate on the bus recently. It was our first real talk, and we touched on vision boards. When I asked if she made one, her response was refreshing:
"I set goals, but I stay open to new opportunities. I don’t want to be so fixed on one path that I miss out on what’s right in front of me."
Her words made me pause. My checklist for 2024 didn’t include some of the best moments we’ve experienced this year, yet those moments defined the year.
Turning Challenges into Wins
In March, the old site went down for an entire week. It was a terrifying moment for me—especially since I hadn’t prioritized regular website maintenance despite the daily traffic we got. I panicked and couldn’t sleep for nights. I feared we’d lose our audience. To my surprise, so many of you reached out on LinkedIn and Instagram, sharing messages of hope and eagerly waiting for the site to come back.
Your support reminded me that we’re not just a platform, we’re a community.
Shortly after, when we launched the subscription model, I was anxious. "Will people pay for something they’ve always accessed for free?" I wondered. But you proved me wrong. Just minutes after the model went live, two of you subscribed. (Thank you, A.D. and Mtim—you know who you are.) Your faith in InclusivelyRemote gave me the confidence to keep going.
To our first 100 premium subscribers in March and every single person who joined after, thank you for being the heart of this journey. We also had amazing collaborations with educational platforms and participated in events as a panelist and speaker on remote work topics.
Building a Community
Building is hard work. It’s like farming—requiring resources, patience, and resilience. As the builder, you often carry the weight of uncertainty. But when people come and lay their tents in what you’ve built, that’s when the satisfaction sets in.
This year, we saw that satisfaction in many forms:
Helping jobseekers land roles they’d dreamed of.
Creating a space for individuals to learn, connect, and grow through our social media platforms.
Witnessing people take their first steps toward remote work freedom.
We didn’t achieve every goal. We lost subscribers and gained some back. But the year taught us the importance of showing up for our community no matter what.
If someone had told me in 2022 that my casual hobby of curating career tips and remote job opportunities as a weekly newsletter would one day grow into a public platform helping many people around the world, I would have laughed.
The Job Market and Success Stories
This year brought challenges for many in the job market. Economic downturns, layoffs, and competition made it tough for job seekers. But it also brought growth.
Our Indian and Jamaican communities expanded significantly. I had the privilege of speaking with job seekers and clients from these regions, learning about their cultures and sharing in their journeys. There’s so much untapped talent in the world—it’s heartbreaking that opportunities are often separated by bridges we’ve yet to build.
Still, 2024 wasn’t without its wins:
A community member landed a job paying $170,000 annually.
Someone else secured their first remote internship.
Others earned their first dollars from content writing, received relocation offers, or landed their first remote interviews.
If you’re still waiting for your "yes," don’t lose hope. Your story is still unfolding.
What Is in Store for 2025
In 2025, we want to expand the vision. Yes, I will still be making a vision board and setting it as a wallpaper on both my phone and laptop so I can be reminded of it each time I open my device. However, I am going to leave a huge space in the middle titled: "For the unplanned, God-aligned opportunities that will blow my mind."
In 2025, I plan to help more jobseekers around the world—not just in Africa, as the community has grown—but to everyone who needs a platform to walk with them on their career journey.
We are currently working on:
Free eBooks and resources to be made available for all users of the site.
Upgraded and revised career materials, templates and job application assistance for our premium members, which will come with the enhanced subscription plan.
More weekly blogs to keep you updated on the remote work market.
Basically, in 2025, we want to do even more for the jobseeking community, especially for those who have recently been laid off and are feeling devastated.
